Trying Burritos From Places Other Than Whole Foods (Part 1)

I've said it hundreds of times and I'll say it hundreds more: Whole Foods burritos are my pride and joy. Who's jaw just dropped? I'm trying to branch out and try more of the Mexican food in Sonoma County (it's a never ending task). It's the perfect excuse to eat more burritos, but more importantly, I really want to find the best. Who knows, maybe there is food out there that's better than Whole Foods (don't make fun of me for saying that).
I could make this post 10 pages long but I've decided to split it up into a few parts because I am highly aware that not everyone is as invested in nor as passionate about reading burrito reviews as I am.
CHUNKY'S TAQUERIA & GRILL

Flavor? Fantastic. Presentation? Flawless. Prep time? Speedy. Overall? Solid A.
Chunky's is the Mi Pueblo of East Petaluma in the sense that it's a solid choice for homey, quick, basic-but-not-boring, authentic Mexican food. I love that their burritos are served wrapped up in foil even when dining in, because this is, of course, the best, most satisfying, and most efficient way to enjoy a burrito. It's like unwrapping Christmas presents but this time, instead of being extremely disappointed, you're unwrapping something that you actually want! The foil alone turned me into a fan from the beginning.
The only thing I wish Chunky's had was black beans, but I can live without them! I'm happy that they at least serve pinto beans because I, for one, am not really down for the whole refried-beans-typically-being-made-with-lard situation.
The chips and salsa bar is top-notch and as a whole, Chunky's is a delicious choice for any meal of the day! It's been next to Leghorn's Park before that park even existed, so if that gives you any indication of how much people love it... There you go.
LOS GALLOS TAQUERIA

Perhaps it's because I got a burrito without cheese and without it, there is nothing to fuse the ingredients together, but this was not the best burrito I have ever had in my life. I really do appreciate every single burrito I eat because how can you go wrong? Even homemade burritos with just rice and beans and a plain ole' tortilla hit the spot every time.
That being said, I think there are better burritos out there. I've never had anything else on their menu because I feel like that restaurant changes ownership too often to keep up, but everyone else seemed to really be enjoying the other items on the menu.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, per-say because, once again, how can you really mess up a burrito, but I think spicy salsa or some type of sauce along with more veggies would've raised this burrito to the next level.
The chips were great, though!
EL ROY'S MEXICAN GRILL

Oh yeah <-- click on that to create some nice ambiance while reading this El Roy's review.
Don't even get me started! I am started. I am going.
I actually can't genuinely speak about anything besides the regular burrito, no dairy, add guac because I'm super uninformed about their menu since all I've ever had is that burrito (give me burrito or give me death!). Since the first time I was blessed by my visit to the vibrant taco truck, I've never felt the need to try anything else because that burrito was everything I ever wanted and more. If you're not one for spice you wouldn't be into their burritos at all, but the magic sauce that's mixed into their burritos is sensational. It's not one of those spices that burns and does nothing to add flavor, but instead it's a "full bodied" (yeah, I've gone wine tasting, okay!!), flavorful concoction that is an absolutely necessary component of the El Roy's experience.
As you can probably tell, El Roy's won this round of "Trying Burritos From Places Other Than Whole Foods". The other two restaurants just couldn't compare to the flavor or consistency of that out-of-this-world work of art. If you've tried it, you know, but El Roy's has that something extra that really makes it stand out from the others.
Catch you again soon for part 2 and thanks for stopping by! Hasta luego!
